Four Quick Run (Man)

Commence in Closed Position,

Count 1 (Slow):
Step back with the right foot along the line of dance, backing LOD, using toe-heel footwork. Initiate contra body movement to start a left turn, rising slightly at the end of the step. Keep shoulders parallel to the lady’s, ensuring minimal upper-body rotation. Maintain forward poise to avoid collapsing the frame. The alignment shifts from backing LOD to preparing for the diagonal wall.
Project your body weight smoothly backward while keeping the frame expansive and connected. Hold the head naturally, eyes focused over the lady’s right shoulder. Ensure constant contact through the right hand and upper body, allowing the lady to feel the turning lead. Anticipate the turn early to prevent hesitation in the following quick steps.

Count 2 (Quick):
Swing the left foot to the side and slightly forward, pointing diagonal wall, with toe footwork. Complete a 3/8 left turn between counts 1–2 while keeping body rotation less than foot rotation. Sustain the rise initiated on count 1, ensuring ankles and knees are fully extended. Align hips toward diagonal wall without over-rotating. Transfer weight decisively onto the left foot.
Drive the body diagonally forward with controlled momentum, maintaining a firm but flexible frame. Keep the left side gently leading the lady, head turned slightly left toward the direction of travel. Avoid sway by keeping the spine upright and centered over the supporting leg. Sync your body flight with the lady’s to create harmonious movement.

Count 3 (Quick):
Step forward with the right foot in CBMP toward diagonal wall, using toe footwork. Apply a slight left body turn to continue rotation without altering alignment. Hold the rise, keeping the body lifted and weight forward. Ensure the step moves directly along the line of dance with controlled length. Maintain outside partner position for clear leading.
Extend the right side subtly to preserve connection and frame integrity. Focus eyes forward, avoiding downward glances that break posture. Feel the lady’s position through consistent body contact. Use CBMP to create space for the lady’s movement without separation.

Count 4 (Quick):
Step diagonally forward with the left foot, facing diagonal wall, using toe footwork. Sustain the rise with no turn, moving decisively along the line of dance. Keep steps compact and quick, ensuring the ball of the foot touches first. Align shoulders square to diagonal wall.
Maintain forward body flight, allowing the frame to move as a single unit. Keep the head poised and centered, avoiding tilting. Reinforce connection through a light but steady left hand hold. Minimize vertical bounce to preserve elegance.

Count 5 (Quick):
Cross the right foot tightly behind the left, facing diagonal wall, with toe footwork. Hold the rise while keeping the upper body calm and aligned. Position the crossed feet neatly under the body for balance. Avoid any turn or sway during this swift movement.
Stabilize the frame to support the lady during the cross. Keep eyes level and forward, resisting the urge to look down. Maintain gentle pressure through the right palm to guide the lady’s momentum. Cross closely to avoid stumbling or separation.

Count 6 (Slow):
Step diagonally forward with the left foot, facing diagonal wall, using toe-heel footwork. Lower smoothly at the end of the step while moving along the line of dance. Prepare for the next figure by holding CBMP alignment. Keep the step flowing without braking.
Control the descent to avoid jarring the connection. Sustain forward body flight until the lowering is complete. Hold the head gracefully, eyes directed toward the dance path. Conclude with poised readiness for the next sequence.

Four Quick Run (Lady)

Commence in Closed Position,

Count 1 (Slow):
Step forward with the left foot along the line of dance, facing LOD, using heel-toe footwork. Initiate contra body movement for the left turn, rising at the end of the step. Keep the right side extended toward the man to maintain contact. Align shoulders parallel to his.
Project the body forward with fluidity, avoiding back-weighted stiffness. Turn the head left, gazing over the man’s right shoulder. Feel his lead through the frame and body contact. Stay forward-poised to match his momentum seamlessly.

Count 2 (Quick):
Step side with the right foot, backing wall, using toe footwork. Execute a 1/4 left turn between counts 1–2 while swiveling on the ball of the foot. Sustain the rise, lengthening the right side to avoid blocking the man. Align hips backing wall.
Extend the left side of the body elegantly, taking the head strongly left to create a curved shape. Keep the frame supple yet responsive to the man’s lead. Avoid rotating the upper body independently, which destabilizes the spine. Lengthen your neckline to enhance grace.

Count 3 (Quick):
Step back with the left foot in CBMP, backing diagonal wall, using toe footwork. Complete a 1/8 left turn between counts 2–3 with restrained body rotation. Hold the rise, keeping weight centered over the supporting leg. Move directly against the line of dance.
Maintain body contact, pressing lightly into the man’s right side. Hold the head left with a soft gaze, chin parallel to the floor. Keep the spine aligned to prevent leaning back. Trust the man’s lead to guide your direction.

Count 4 (Quick):
Step back with the right foot, backing diagonal wall, using toe footwork. Sustain the rise with no turn, stepping along the line of dance. Keep steps light and quick, landing on the ball of the foot.
Preserve body flight backward without breaking connection. Hold the head position left, creating a continuous line from shoulder to ear. Feel the man’s frame for directional cues. Move with economy to maintain rhythm.

Count 5 (Quick):
Cross the left foot neatly in front of the right, backing diagonal wall, using toe footwork. Hold the rise, keeping the upper body steady and aligned. Avoid sway or excessive rotation.
Stabilize the frame to absorb the man’s lead during the cross. Maintain head left, eyes softly focused. Ensure consistent body contact to prevent gap formation. Cross precisely to avoid entanglement.

Count 6 (Slow):
Step diagonally back with the right foot, backing diagonal wall, using toe-heel footwork. Lower smoothly at the end of the step. Prepare for the next figure in CBMP.
Control the descent while keeping the frame connected and expansive. Hold the head left until the step concludes. Finish with balanced poise, ready to respond.

General Notes

Core Points

  • Begin with decisive CBM on count 1 to initiate the left turn fluidly.
  • Maintain consistent rise from count 1’s end through count 5, lowering only on count 6.
  • Use precise footwork (toe-heel for slows, toe for quicks) to ensure lightness.
  • Keep all steps compact and aligned to diagonal wall after the turn.
  • Apply CBMP on count 3 to maintain outside partner position without collision.

Advanced Elements

  • Extend the body laterally during turns (e.g., lady’s head left on count 2) for sculpted lines.
  • Sustain frame integrity through connection points to communicate leads subtly.
  • Minimize sway by keeping the spine upright and centered throughout.
  • Harmonize body flight with musical accents to enhance expressiveness.

A shimmering ribbon of motion,
unspooling across the floor with effortless delight.
